lake Tanganyika
Although landlocked, Zambia
has water resorts on the shores of Lake
Tanganyika in the north of the country.
Fine world-class game fishing is a major
feature here. This inland sea, one of the
seven largest lakes in the world, contains
Goliath Tiger fish, which have been landed
at 35kg, Nile perch over 50kg, and giant
catfish of over 50kg.
This extraordinary Lake
holds 1/5th of the worlds fresh water supply,
it is the longest and second deepest lake
in the world. It is 1433m deep ( 642m below
sea level ) Many of the 350 fish species
are unique to the lake and equally as well
known to tropical aquarium enthusiasts who
are collectors of some of its amazing fish,
as to sporting anglers. This destination
is a 'must' for any Fishing Safaris.
There are three principal
beach resorts on Lake Tanganyika - Kasaba
Bay, Nkamba Bay & Ndole Bay. The beaches
are a great place to top up your suntan
with the fresh crystal clear waters which
are a delight to swim in. All these beaches
are situated within the Sumbu National Park.
